Founded
BMT was established in 1985; but we can trace our origins all the way back to 1887 when Charles Parsons, inventor of the steam turbine, established the company that became the cornerstone of the British Ship Research Association, which in turn evolved into one half of BMT.
How does Bath influence your work?
Great proximity and accessibility to our key customers, notably the Ministry of Defence in Abbey Wood and Corsham.
Powerful links with academia - BMT has been a strong advocate of University of Bath University’s management school (including the Fast Track), marine design and intelligent systems development; we have sponsored PhDs and student placements. We hold prestigious positions within the university including an Honorary Professorship and chair of the industrial advisory board.
Bath is a part of BMT’s tapestry – we’ve celebrated with summer parties at the Rec; our staff run in the Bath Half; some of us (!) are passionate Bath Rugby fans; we have ‘away days’ at local hotels; we take walks around the city during our lunch breaks; we have socials after work in the city’s bars and restaurants. Our people are part of the Bath family.
